This page contains special memories of the late Ed Bruley as recalled by his life-long friend, Marv Bottke.

Edward Bruley, one of our classmates, passed away April 15th, 2021, in Bullhead City, Arizona.  He will be sadly missed by his wife Heather, two Children, Jay and Callie, along with many friends and acquaintances.
Edward did not graduate with the class of 1961 but he always had a warm spot in his heart for all his former classmates. He often asked with genuine interest about many of the classmates.
Having remained a longtime friend of Ed’s, I would like to share a few thoughts and memories of him.
I knew Ed since grade school at Trinity Lutheran school in Faribault. I admired him as someone who was brave, resourceful, kind, caring and willing to take healthy risks to sustain himself.

Edward told me of some troubling times at home while growing up.   When he was old enough to get a vision for his future, he decided to leave home, leave school, and fend for himself.   His first job was at the Faribault Hotel.  He managed to find a place to live on his own.   Later he left the Hotel and went to work at another job in Faribault.
Edward married Joan Durand from Faribault. In 1964 his mother in law, Mayone (Joan's mother) announced that she wanted to move to California.   Ed told her that he would be willing to move her out there. He quit his job and he and Joan, their two children, and Mayone ventured forward to the new destination, Orange California. Ed never returned to Faribault except for an occasional visit. In California, he moved from Orange to Carlsbad, California. He studied the trade of surveying through a relative and spent his career in that endeavor.  He became a successful land surveyor. He got his teaching credentials, and taught surveying for 7 years.   In 1985 he married his current wife Heather.  They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary April 21st.  At retirement in 2007, along with having been a successful land surveyor, he had become the business agent for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12.
In early retirement, he and Heather sold their place in Carlsbad and moved up into the San Bernardino mountains to the town of Big Bear.   In 2011 they also purchased a 2200 square foot 3 bedroom winter home in Bullhead City Arizona, across the river from Laughlin. Just recently, at the end of March, Ed and Heather closed the deal on the sale of their home in Big Bear and were living in Bullhead City, Arizona.  Ed sadly passed away at 1:46 pm April 15th, 2021, at Sunrise Hospital in Nevada.   Heather said she finds this an overwhelming time but also feels is blessed with a wonderful support system.
